Paducah Community College offers Nursing Workshop at the
Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara-March 13-15, 2003
“It was really refreshing and revitalizing,”
said PCC nursing program coordinator Tena Payne, who returned
from Mexico with PCC President Barbara Veazey. Payne’s presentation
on nursing practices and leadership, given entirely in Spanish,
was the first continuing education course for the UAG nursing
program. More than 50 nurses from hospitals and clinics in the
city and outlying areas took unpaid leave to attend.
“They were so excited about being there, Payne said. “They
were so eager to learn. They soaked everything up. Sometimes we
forgot why we went into teaching. This was a reminder.”
The workshop was part of Global Studies and International Partnerships,
started in 2001 by Dr. Michael B. McCall, President of KCTCS.
Administrators at the UAG want to use this as
a model to spread to other area of Mexico, provide continuing
nursing education throughout Latin America.
