Hazard student elected to KCTCS Board of Regents for 2004/05

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 11, 2004) – A Hazard student has been elected by her peers to serve on the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) Board of Regents during the 2004/05 academic year. Cynthia Osborne of Hazard Community and Technical College will serve as the new community college student regent. She replaces Brandon W. Robinson of Southeast Community College.
The 14-member Board of Regents establishes policy for Kentucky’s statewide system of two-year community and technical colleges. Osborne will begin her 2004/05 term after July 1.
Cynthia L. Read, chair of the KCTCS Board of Regents, said she looks forward to the new regent’s service on the board. “Ms. Osborne comes to the board with a variety of experiences,” Read said. “We will benefit from her participation.”
Osborne is a full-time student at Hazard’s main campus, majoring in health care administration, and carrying a 4.0 GPA. Upon completion of her associate degree, she plans to transfer to Midway College to work on a bachelor’s degree.
Osborne currently serves as vice president of Phi Theta Kappa honor society and is a member of the Student Government Association for the Hazard Campus. She also has been involved in numerous volunteer activities including the KCTCS/Rotary Access to Careers Day; community fundraiser for the Kentucky River Children’s Advocacy Center; March of Dimes, and Hospice.
Osborne graduated from high school in Michigan in 1972. Prior to enrolling at Hazard Community and Technical College in 2002, she spent a number of years working in hospitals and serving as a minister of music in an international youth corps.
One of Osborne’s goals, as a student regent, is to help KCTCS advance and provide more access to students.
“We live in challenging times, and I intend to do my very best to serve our students and to bring to this distinguished board new and fresh ideas,” she said.
KCTCS colleges change lives by providing academic and technical associate degrees; diploma and certificate programs in occupational fields; pre-baccalaureate education; adult, continuing and developmental education; customized training for business and industry; and distance learning.
