KCTCS appoints state director to lead auto-workforce initiative

VERSAILLES, Ky. (December 22, 2004) - President Michael B. McCall has appointed a former automotive manufacturing manager to a new leadership position for the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS).

James White, who most recently worked at Central Kentucky Technical College, has been named state director of the Kentucky Center for Excellence in Automotive Manufacturing.

Following his retirement from Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc. in 2001, White has worked for KCTCS providing workforce essential skills training to business and industry.

As a department head at Toyota, White's duties included production management and implementing manufacturing efficiency. He also was part of the first group certified to lead kaizen training and implementation in the United States.

Prior to joining Toyota, White served as the state planner for the Department of Vocational Education in Kentucky.

White earned his bachelor's degree is secondary education and his master's degree in vocational education administration from the University of Kentucky.

The Kentucky Center of Excellence in Automotive Manufacturing is part of a multi-state collaborative between education and industry that focuses on the development and implementation of automotive manufacturing technology and training. Besides Kentucky, other partnering states to this point are Alabama, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.
