32 KCTCS Students Honored as All-Academic Scholars

VERSAILLES, Ky. (May 4, 2005) - Thirty-two top college students were honored April 26 as members of the 2005 All-Academic Team at the Kentucky Community and Technical College System’s (KCTCS) fourth annual student achievement dinner in Lexington.
Two students from each of the 16 KCTCS colleges were named as the finest in their college. The scholars were chosen based on a rigorous selection process that focused on academic performance and a written essay.
Each student All-Academic received a $500 gift from KCTCS and a $500 scholarship from the University of Louisville for the 2005-06 academic year.
The 2005 KCTCS All-Academic Scholars are part of a national program sponsored by national honor society Phi Theta Kappa, USA Today, and the American Association of Community Colleges.
KCTCS President Michael B. McCall, keynote speaker at the dinner, said, "These students were selected because of their leadership and commitment to excellence. Their long list of academic and leadership achievements has raised the bar for future generations of scholars."
In addition to the All-Academic Scholars, a number of Phi Theta Kappa students and chapters were recognized. These included:
Alpha Omega Gamma, Ashland Community and Technical College, was honored as being one of the Top 100 Chapters in the nation.
The Distinguished Regional Officer Awards, based on nominations submitted by Regional Coordinators, were awarded to Lorena Perkins, Kentucky Regional President, Omicron Zeta chapter, Somerset; and Hope Weaver, Western Kentucky Vice-President, Chi Eta chapter, Madisonville.
