How will you expand your role as a "gateway" to
postsecondary education?
Response
- Create a seamless pathway
from the secondary system through four-year institutions.
- Develop curriculum standards linked
with employers and ensure consistent quality and program coordination across KCTCS.
- Partner with existing state and local agencies
that serve economically and educationally disadvantaged adults.
- Provide comprehensive assessment and support
services to include testing, advising, career and academic counseling and financial
aid.
- Improve communication with middle and high
school guidance counselors.
- Expand colleges collaborations through
innovative scheduling and program design.
Measurable Outcomes
- Increase student referrals,
assessments.
- Expand secondary and baccalaureate
transfer and articulation agreements.
- Increase enrollment by 5,000 students
by 2002.
- Provide academic credentials for 8,000
employees in KCTCS training by 2002.

- Use synchronous and asynchronous
learning networks that incorporate distance-learning technology.
- Develop courses, clusters of competencies
and/or programs that integrate academic with experiential education.
- Instill concepts embedded in liberal arts
and science courses throughout programs.
- Maximize community-driven efforts to consolidate
community and technical colleges and share resources.
- Collaborate and coordinate with other
public and private adult education providers.
- Implement a systemic and innovative developmental
education program.

The mission of the Kentucky Community and Technical College
System is to improve the quality of life and employability of the citizens of the
Commonwealth by serving as the primary provider of the following services:
- Certificate, diploma, technical degree, associate degree
technical and transfer programs
- Workforce training to meet the needs of existing and new
businesses and industries
- Remedial and continuing education
- Short-term, customized training for business and industry
