he Board of Regents of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) voted Jan. 14 to assume management of 13 of Kentucky's community colleges.
The KCTCS was created by the Postsecondary Education Improvement Act, which the General Assembly approved in May. That approval came Jan. 8 from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
KCTCS was established to improve collaboration among the community colleges and the Kentucky Tech postsecondary technical schools,

which will move from the state Cabinet for Workforce Development to KCTCS on July 1.
"While Kentucky citizens need to know that the transfer of management of the community colleges is a key achievement toward setting up this new system, it's important for our employees to know that we're preserving continuity," said KCTCS Board of Regents Chairman Martha C. Johnson. The regents met at Kentucky Tech-Ashland Campus.
Also on Jan. 14, KCTCS Interim President James R. Ramsey announced three major appointments at a news conference that was televised on interactive video to sites across Kentucky.
