Kentucky Community and Technical College System
Clones, Crosslist (merge) and Non Blackboard courses

Clone - A clone is a copy of another instructor's course. If you would like to use another instructor's content, the first thing to do is to get the instructor's approval. Once you have the approval, you can get the content one of two ways.

  1. The instructor can export their course from Blackboard and send you the export file. You would then import the file into your Blackboard shells. At this point you can edit the content as needed.
  2. You can send a request to eLearning support along with the instructor's approval and we can put the content into your shell for you. Make sure to let us know the course code the content needs to go into (the code looks like: BCTC_4062_IT_130_15Z1).

Crosslist (Merge) courses - this is when two or more courses/sections are taught from one course shell in Blackboard.

An example of cross-listing: An instructor is teaching 2 sections of ENG 101 (section z1 and z2) Or two courses that are the same (ANT 101 and REL 101). The instructor doesn't want to have to set the course up in 2 separate shells in the CMS. He wants to use one shell and have all students from both sections/courses access the same course shell. This enables him to see, communicate and grade all sections from one place.

If the sections are SEPARATE in PeopleSoft and the instructor wants the sections merged as one class in Blackboard, please do one of the following:

  1. Solution in PeopleSoft:  For separate online sections requested as a Bb merge,
    1. Use the “combine class section” instructions in PeopleSoft (see PS Combined Sections Solution to “merge” enrollments),

OR

    1. Solution in PeopleSoft:  Initially, when the class schedule is created in PeopleSoft and instructor has requested Bb merged class, use one designated section to accommodate same instructor classes (example:  instructor has three (3) sections and has requested merged class in Blackboard – input only ONE (1) section in PeopleSoft to equal caps of three (3) sections.

OR

    1. Instructor Blackboard Solution:  For Bb Online PeopleSoft sections to one Bb class use “Bb organization” (see Instructor Bb Solution).
    1. Instructor Blackboard Solution:   For Bb Web Enhanced Classes:   For web-enhanced classes requested as one Bb class, use “Bb organization” as 3 above.

Non Blackboard Courses - Faculty not using Blackboard to deliver your online course, you'll need to access your Blackboard shell and put a link in the shell to the URL for your course content. This must be done every semester for every course. Contact your campus eMentor if you need help accomplishing this.
