Course Management System (CMS) Training - Blackboard

The CMS training session is an instructor-led one or two-day workshop where participants learn how to build and manage a course site on the Web. The workshop includes an introduction to Blackboard features, a question-and-answer session, and guided practice time. Training sessions may be scheduled on-site or through web conferencing.

Purpose/Goal of the program:

CMS training promotes and informs the use of web-based content throughout KCTCS teaching and learning, including complete online courses and programs and web enhancements for in person, KET, and ITV courses.

When it's Held:

In Person/Hands on
The in person / hands on training sessions are usually organized by a college. This training can be anywhere from one to two days of training, depending on the level being taught. The instructor may be Paige Brooks-Jeffiers from the System Office or the college e-training mentor.

Webinars/Watch, Listen and Ask Questions -
Webinars are online seminars. Participants watch from personal computer monitor and use the phone for audio.. Webinars are typically two hours and cover a particular topic or feature in a CMS. Participants must register to receive participation codes.

Who Can/Should Apply/Participate:

Interested KCTCS faculty and/or staff.

Criteria for Selection:

Participants should be able to demonstrate the following Basic Computer Skills:
  • Create folders on your computer.
  • Save and find files/folders on your computer.
  • Use e-mail.
  • Attach files.
  • Download files.
  • Find file outside of e-mail program.
  • Use a word processing document.
  • Save file in appropriate folder.
  • Find file outside of Word.
  • Edit and save file with another name.
