About RTW

Ready-to-Work (RTW) is an initiative developed through a partnership between the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (KCHFS) and is designed to promote the success of Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP/TANF) parents who are interested in attending community and technical colleges.

The percentage of the KTAP/TANF population attending college in Kentucky is 8.7%. This is a greater percentage than the percentage of the general population attending college.

Kelly Forbes wasn't satisfied with just barely. The mother of two has not only found a way to get better-paying jobs, she's talked her husband into moving up from his own low-end employment as a fry cook at a local restaurant. Her solution was the Ready to Work program.

OCTC Program helps single moms
Penny Riley felt her life getting away from her. The Owensboro native had dropped out of college in 1999 to take a full-time job at Sears. For her, a single mother of three children, the choice was either school or work, but not both.
