Michelle Legge"Mother. Daughter. Sister. Teacher. Student. Intern. Wife for the past year. These are but a few of the many hats that I wear each day of my life. When I came to Maysville Community College in the Fall of 2000 to enroll and register for Spring classes, I met Mary Fischer the Ready-to-Work coordinator at MCC. I was very nervous about continuing my education after graduating from high school twelve years previous. Mary showed me around the college, introduced me to faculty and staff and other students who were in a similar situation...single mother of three sons who just moved to a new state. I can't tell you how that eased the transition. Through the RTW program, I received the support and encouragement that I needed to succeed in college...and I did succeed. I recently have graduated after five semesters here. They have been tough, wonderful, long, busy, exciting semesters. I graduated with a 3.9 GPA and with several awards and honors under my belt. Now that I have graduated with an AAS in IET with an Electrical Specialty, I have realized the strength and the self-esteem, among several other endearing qualities, that I have received from my college experience. In the Fall I begin attending Morehead State University where I will attain my Bachelors and eventually, my Masters Degrees in IET. My goal for the future? To return to the college and community that I love and give a little of what they have given me back. I'd like to teach the IET program at MCC. My advice to you while you are attending college....make lots of friends, meet lots of new people, be involved, and do your very best. No regrets. Thank you Mary Fischer and thank you MCC faculty and staff for a wonderful college experience and a new beginning."Michelle Legge Receives Phi Theta Kappa Transfer Scholarship Read other Ready-to-Work Student Stories |
